The expansion of salmon fishing rivers with an emphasis on natural spawning represents a forward-looking and sustainable approach to strengthening the North Atlantic salmon stock. The guiding principle of the project is to promote the restoration of the salmon stock and to secure the invaluable natural resource of the North Atlantic salmon for future generations.
A documentary film by Kári G. Schram, which is in the works, about the development of the Laxá River in Keldur, where new salmon habitats in Iceland are being monitored from the start. Lýður Skúlason and Guðmundur Inga Hjartarson are interviewed about their project and the spawning and fry releases of 2022 are shown. This is one of the largest projects in recent years in fish farming and the promotion of North Atlantic salmon.
